Will we go back? Absolutely.
No more historic uniqueness, it’s now blah, blah, blah. It looks more like a visit to the seaside, and the food left a lot to be desired. The hush puppies were tough, heavy and bland; no more crispy tender buttery deliciousness, and the little muffins were cold an bland. The tomato aspic was NOT the creamy, spicy treat that I have looked forward to for the last 45 years, and the grilled pimento cheese sandwich was all bread, there was basically no cheese, they must have used a dressing, not cheese.. They should not trade on the name of The Stagecoach Inn Restaurant, everything about this experience was disappointing.
New owners have DESTROYED this place. 31 years I've been coming here....damn shame, DESTROYED this place!!! Hushpuppies suck, hard. Literally hard hushpuppies, thick and bland. Menu changed too much...and...menus! They have menus now...but they need them, prices outrageous. Only two dessert choices now too. Don't get the strawberry kiss, it's more like a throat punch than a kiss. I think the meringue is made out of cement now. They also..... put in a bar and a large screen TELEVISION. The atmosphere that was the Stagecoach inn is gone.... Rest in Peace Stagecoach Inn...you and Salado will be missed.
Made our comment to a manager but could tell he didn't give a hoot. Funny thing is another guest eating there called us over and told us thanks for saying something their meal was disappointing too.
This was a reunion of sorts, 48 years ago we spent our first night as man and wife at the Stage Coach Inn and had dinner in the restaurant. The food was to die for so we decided this year we would go back to the restaurant and have dinner.
Service we very slow and food was cold. Wish I could say more good things but my on my Strawberry Kiss meringue was so hard I could not eat it. Was worried about breaking a tooth.
Maybe you should change your name to more meet the type of establishment you are looking to become and let someone open back up the real The Stagecoach Inn Restaurant.
Half Grilled Pimento Cheese Sandwich is now one of the Main Courses? It is served with Banana Fritters that have no flavor. First time I have ever seen one left on our table.
The Tradition is gone (So Sad) After being a regular visitor on Mother's Day, Thanksgiving, and other special occasions, the unbelievable has happened all of the special things that made The Stagecoach Inn Restaurant special are now gone.
The encumbrance of the restaurant was really nice. The service was excellent, but the main course that I had (Chicken Fried Steak) was a bit tough and a little over done. The rest of the meal was very good. My wife ordered the Salmon and according to her was very good. The beer and wine were excellent. A very thoughtful touch on the desert plate was quite nice. The chef had written "Happy Anniversary" on the plates.
Different from the old stage coach but not bad. We had the room to ourselves but they seated us by the window where the only view was of the air conditioners. Lost a point there. Come on , the worst seat in the house. Rachel our waitress was great. Our tea glasses never went empty. I like that they changed the menu so now the a la crate plates can now be substituted into their classic menu. Hush puppies were dusted with some sugar. Different from the previous hot water ones but tasty. The chicken consommé tasted pretty much like brackish hot water with onion. Not the best. The salad was excellent. The greens nice and crispy. The dressing was light. Not overpowering. My husband also enjoyed the tomato aspic. I had the prime rib. It was very good. I enjoyed the crust on the meat. My husband loved the catfish. The meat was tender and the seasoning excellent. No heavy breading and deep frying. The banana fritters were different and really bananas mixed into a bread and deep fried. Tasted good. No more maraschino cherries. For desert I had the strawberry kiss. Good but the meringue needed to be lighter and airier. It was tough. My husband had the other choice. It was the brownie. We appreciated the dark, less sweet chocolate after the heavy meal we just had. The two scoops of ice cream was fun and there was the maraschino cherry. It was really large enough for two. All in all, it was a good dining experience. The price point was good for the quality and sheer amount of food you recieved. The interior was pleasant and I appreciated seeing the reclaimed wood from an old church used for the flooring. Could do without the stuffed pheasants on the walls but it’s not objectionable, just not my taste. The bar is beautiful and the bartender entertaining. I would suggest adding another fork to your place setting. For the price and quality, there should be a salad fork and a butter knife. I don’t like to have to move my silverware from plate to table and then reuse as plates are removed. It is unsanitary especially when the table is bare wood. It is worth the trip from Dallas and we will be back.
Prepare for smaller portion sizes and higher prices, more like a click establishment you would find in a big city not like a small historical city like Salado. I think the beer and wine is more important than the food.
