The waitress and hostess were pleasant, but the explanation of the brunch menu vs regular menu was a little weird, the kitchen wasn't prepared for the regular dinner menu, however all dinner items could be purchased a la carte.
The food was NOT the same. Every item I ordered that was kept from old menu had some recipe changes. Flavorless, chicken consume, processed like hush puppies, chicken fried steak and I don't know what they did to the Tomato Aspic, I wanted to cry.
Liked the surroundings a lot. Food overall was pretty good but a bit pricey. Beer can chicken was very good but it was a tiny half a chicken. Could use some signage on main street. We found the sign and the closed gate right off the highway confusing.
That is about a far as I can go for the experience.
I don't mind the update building. The atmosphere is really in keeping with the original feeling of old elegance.
It's an amazing place. Beautiful. I can't say enough about the food. The chicken fried steak is probably the best I've had in my 60+ years. Please try the hibiscus margarita you won't regret it.
Great place. The GM, Josh, took great care of us, as well as Emmit our server. Highly recommended!
Great for a romantic date or a celebration with friends. It's got old fashioned southern dishes with a daily 4 course Menu in a quaint white plantation house - it's like a step back in time. They recently moved to 416 s. Main Street so don't trust the current address on Google. The Tomato Aspic (a salty tomato jelly) they are famous for and is a must try for adventurous eaters. Great wine list and cocktails. This place is baby friendly and they have spacious single person bathrooms with baby changing tables.
The comments I was hearing from others around me were similar. It seems the management was not understanding that people come from all around the state to shop and eat at this long awaited re opening of a much loved spot in Central Texas. And on Thanksgiving weekend!
Sad so sad. I won't be returning.
At first we changed tables 4 times. The chairs were flimsy and uncomfortable. The tables in the hallway are also a bad idea. I was at a table that when seated, I was in the middle of a doorway. Two customers left. Don't know why, except that one was sitting at the table we were finally seated.
What a shame. A long time tradition is gone.
